Over the past ten years, Jan has shared his story with thousands of individuals around the world, from large auditoriums, to small intimate gatherings of a few people, this story, so vivid in it’s nature, moves people to action.
A journey that began with a surprising invitation has turned into a lifetime project and reels of stunning film footage. As part of a film crew who has traveled to the remote island of Midway Atoll in the North Pacific, Jan Vozenilek is documenting an ongoing horrifically symbolic environmental tragedy that affects us all.
In his keynote presentation, he will paint a vivid picture of a remote island covered in toothbrushes, cigarette lighters, combs and other swirling garbage. An island three kilometers long and home to millions of Albatrosses who cannot distinguish between plastic trash and their traditional seafood fare. In this process, Vozenilek will pose bigger questions about what this tragedy means to society as a whole, and what can be done about it.

TESTIMONIALS:
“Jan’s presentation is emotionally powerful and leaves you wanting to take action and reconsider consumption. His presentation helps motivate individual’s to want to do their part to make the world a better place. Our staff were inspired and the presentation set off a chain reaction of real action starting with a 21-Day No Single-Use Plastic Challenge across Disney Interactive Worlds to us now launching a Personal Sustainability Platform across Disney Interactive globally. I would highly recommend Jan to present to any organization, school or conference. “
Nicole Rustad – Corporate Citizenship Program Director, Disney Interactive Worlds
“TEDx is about passion and giving “the talk of your life” and Jan did both. I am sure there was not one person in the audience who was unaffected by Jan’s presentation. He had a controlled presence on the stage and was backed up by excellent cinematography on the screens.”
Brian Hughes – Curator – TEDx Okanagan College
“Jan’s TEDx message concerning the plight of Midway Island albatross was so compelling, and his presentation so polished and passionate, that I invited him to speak at our 5th Building SustainAble Communities conference. Our delegates were amazingly engaged, not only with his unique presentation style, but also with his world-class photographs and factual yet compassionate assessment of our challenges and the urgently needed solutions.”
Joanne de Vries – Founder & CEO – Fresh Outlook Foundation
“Jan confidently addressed an audience of close to 1300 people, held their attention, imparted a heartfelt thoughtful message and generated considerable interest in his work on Midway Island. His video work is exemplary, informative and engaging. His passion for the subject matter obvious and his story remarkable. From his presentation, students moved to action and have a number of awareness raising events to try to end the use of plastic water bottles in our school. This work continues in large part because of Jan’s work.”
Sandra Richardson – Vice Principal – Penticton Secondary School
“In my 5 years of hosting the ‘GetActive! Penticton Goal Setting’ series, Jan Vozenilek’s presentation was one of our most valuable and inspirational sessions. But it is the message that comes from his heart that impacts the people and makes his presentation stand out well above most speakers.”
Bob Pope – Recreation Coordinator – City of Penticton
“Jan’s presentation caused our group of over 50 of our members to change their attitude immediately. At the break the group put aside the Styrofoam coffee cups & used the porcelain cups hidden in the cupboard. They are committed to continue this at every meeting. This was one small step but it demonstrates how we can all re-think our daily habits and make decisions to avoid using disposable plastic items. Thank you for your inspiration.”
Ray Putnam – Program Director – Central Okanagan Photographic Society
“Jan’s presentation had a significant impact upon those in attendance, as it brought to the forefront an issue which does not receive nearly the attention it requires here in the Lower Mainland.”
Mark Sakai – Executive Director – Delta Archives
“Jan’s deep compassion for this serious global issue, and his professional approach as a cinematographer resulted in a presentation that engaged the audience and motivated them to make a difference.”
Craig Henderson – Project Director – Naramata Conservation
“When Jan Vozenilek came to present in January, there was a unique buzz that lingered for months after he spoke. The images, video, and live examples he brought were incredibly impacting and it was no surprise that the local TV station (CHBC Global TV) showed up to document the evening and capture their own interview. Midway is a project and presentation that demands a response because of Jan’s integrity and passion. We were honored to host him and have a world-class artist in our city working on such a worthy cause.”
Nico Boesten – Tribehouse Artist Collective
“Jan spoke with passion and a deep understanding of the man made environmental disaster that has resulted from our appetite for single use/throw away packaging and products. The connection to real life was deepened when Jan shared boxes full of plastic items collected from Midway Island and from the bellies of young albatross. Some of the students were moved tears.”
Karin Carriere – Grade 4/5 Teacher – Carmi Elementary School
“Jan Vozenilek is one of the top presenters that I had in my classroom during my twelve years of teaching. He is an extremely passionate individual who easily relays his message through the use of film, strong photos, story telling, hands on displays and class discussion. He inspired many of the students in my class to take action and consider the future consequences of their choices and the choices of others. His commitment to educating students and others in the community is admirable.”
Teresa Fry – Grade 12 teacher – Princess Margaret Secondary School
